Crichton Farm visit

Geography students embarked on a visit to a local dairy farm early in September. They were met by Emma Boyes who had visited the school the previous week and introduced students to life on a modern dairy farm. Fiona Jamieson, who represents the Royal Highland Education Trust, was on hand to ensure everyone got hot chocolate and biscuits. The pupils were given a tour of the calving pens, calves and milking parlour by Emma.

They were fortunate enough to witness a calf being born. Hugh McClymont, farm manager at the Crichton, took the group on a tractor and trailer tour of the maize fields, lucerne crop and agri-environment schemes on the farm. Everyone enjoyed an informative and rewarding visit.
